On 18 August 1990, the author was among a number of civil rights activists who joined the Democratic Action Party of Malaysia in an effort to strengthen the then emergent Opposition Front. He became a Central Executive and State Committee leader of the party as well as editor of the party organ "The Rocket". In June 1995, he left disenchanted.
"INSIDE THE DAP 1990-95" is a record made by Dr Kua Kia Soong of his five years in the inner sanctum of the DAP. He also explains the events leading to and after his disqualification as a candidate in the 1995 gen- eral elections. The documents in the Appendices are some of his positive contributions to an agenda for re- form of the DAP and the nation.
This book must be read by DAP cadres, voters, aca- demics, students and progressives who want a genuine social democratic alternative to the Barisan Nasional. It provides an insight into the questions frequently asked about the DAP:
Can the DAP be reformed?
Is the DAP truly multi-ethnic?
Why is factionism rife in the party?
