“Moving,” is book one of four in a series of autobiographical novels. Genre-wise, they are classified as fiction. Written in first person, Lucy, tells her story of moving from a small city in upstate New York to a Kibbutz in Israel at age 12. This news sets Lucy’s rollercoaster in motion as she leaves her father and brother behind and finds herself living on a Kibbutz in 1971 Lucy takes the reader through high school with her and allows them into her misunderstood world with honesty. The style so intense at times she practically begs the reader to understand her, as no one else does. The story begins in her quiet upstate community, setting the scene for the bombshell she is about to receive from her Mother and Stepfather. Once in Israel, the reader is given an in-depth tour of kibbutz life through the eyes of a teenager whose Hebrew is minimal and understanding of her Jewish heritage is nil. “I just don’t get what all this talk about 'antisemination' is!” As the years go by, Lucy’s sense of identity becomes confused, as she tries to hold onto her American roots by marrying a pathological liar from New York but inadvertently absorbing into Israeli culture.
